How does the Percentage to CGPA Calculator work?

Many students know their marks in percentage but want to convert it into CGPA for forms, resumes or foreign applications. This calculator uses a simple reverse formula of the commonly used CGPA × 9.5 method.

General formula: Percentage to CGPA (10-point)

If we assume the general formula:

Percentage ≈ CGPA × 9.5

then we can reverse it to get:

CGPA ≈ Percentage ÷ 9.5

Example 1 – Convert 76% to CGPA:

  • Percentage = 76
  • CGPA ≈ 76 ÷ 9.5 ≈ 8.00

Example 2 – Convert 85.5% to CGPA:

  • Percentage = 85.5
  • CGPA ≈ 85.5 ÷ 9.5 ≈ 9.00

This gives you a quick idea of what CGPA your percentage roughly represents on a 10-point scale.

Where is % to CGPA conversion needed?

  • When admission forms ask for CGPA instead of percentage.
  • For resumes and LinkedIn where you want to show education details.
  • While applying for internships and campus placements.
  • When comparing your score with friends from CGPA-based universities.

Important note about university formulas

Not every institute uses the exact same formula. Some use different multipliers or slightly different CGPA ranges. This online Percentage to CGPA Calculator is meant for a general 10-point scale conversion.

For official documents, always follow the conversion method mentioned by your school, board or university (in rulebook, prospectus or circular).

Relation between percentage, CGPA and GPA

In simple terms, all three try to represent your academic performance:

  • Percentage: Out of 100, easy to understand.
  • CGPA: Cumulative grade on a 10-point scale.
  • GPA: Often used as a 4-point scale in foreign universities.

You can first convert percentage → CGPA (10-point), and then CGPA → GPA (4-point) using an approximate formula like: GPA ≈ (CGPA ÷ 10) × 4.
